There is a new face at WCC, and, more specifically, at Washtenaw Technical Middle College. Deborah Trapp is the new dean of WTMC. Trapp has had many years of working with alternative education, and education in general.

In college, she was an English/drama major and eventually received her masters in educational psychology. Trapp also has an educational specialist degree in education leadership.

Truly a person of many talents, Trapp has had several different career experiences including journalism teacher, alternative education coordinator, assistant principal, director of Ann Arbor's Community High School, and even working for the Detroit Free Press. In her 29 years of work, 20 have been spent in alternative education, which makes her a perfect dean of WTMC.

When Trapp was told the news that she had acquired the position, she said that she felt like she was "coming home." During an interview with Trapp, it was perfectly obvious that she was extremely excited to be here.

"Kids love it here, for the most part," she said.

Her main goals are to do a lot of question asking and listening to the students, as well as to support the students and staff. She hopes to create more extracurricular activities for WTMC students and, furthermore, create more social interaction from the school and community service groups.

For the entire existence of the school, WTMC has had difficulties with colleges and universities accepting the students' college credits. Trapp plans to make partnerships with the colleges and universities in the area to help them recognize that credit, saying she will do "everything in her power" to get these institutions to accept college credit form WTMC students.

Trapp is stepping into the shoes of Lee Schleicher, who has been the dean of WTMC for its nine years of existence. This is an exciting new time for this relational school and Trapp is an ideal person to be leading it.
