WCC health students Destiny Lewis and Michael Glenn got more than just A's and B's as their reward for a great semester; they got to take home the gold and silver, respectively.
Their instructor, Hira Dedhia, took them to a state-wide medical terminology competition in Traverse City held by the Health Occupation Students of America on April 19. There, high school and post-secondary students from all over Michigan took a written test with Lewis and Glenn winning top honors and a chance at the national competition in Orlando.
Both of the students were able to travel to the event out of their own pocket, but Dedhia assured them that they will be reimbursed by WCC for their trip. The students were happy to have even been able to go on the trip.
"It was good to be seeing people in those types of jobs," Glenn noted.
Lewis is planning to use her credits at WCC to transfer to the University of Michigan where she plans to study nursing.
Glenn has been taking classes at WCC since 1995 and is currently studying to be a physical therapy assistant after losing his fourth job as an engineer.
"It was just exciting to win something," Lewis remarked.
