Welcome Day at WCC is always a pleasant way to get acquainted with WCC, Student Activities, and the various opportunities available on campus. This year's Welcome Week opened Jan. 16 with wax hands and balloon animals. Students lined up from all over campus to dip their hands in a tub of warm wax, tint the wax, and then wait for it to harden into fantastic shapes. A balloon animal technician stood in the wings, creating odd creatures out of latex, air, and a little know-how. Several students wore their balloon creations on their heads.

Jan. 17 brought the Club Hub, where students found out how to get involved with various campus organizations. Clubs such as the Social Justice Club and Dance 4 Unity set up tables in the Student Center building to hand out flyers, candy, and capture the interest of students.

Mardi Gras masks were all the rage at WCC Jan. 18. Student Activities staff provided sequins, plastic masks, and gaudy feathers so that students could at least imagine the Mardi Gras experience. Several banks, including TCF and Comerica, were on hand that day as well, vying to provide the most attractive account features to students, who are famous for their lack of financial experience - credit card and loan debt anyone?
