Tired of the plain day-in day- out stream of classes and work? Are you looking to be entertained, get involved, or go on an adventure?

Student Activities is looking to provide that for you! This semester they've lined up a full calendar of events in and outside of campus in pursuit of their mission to provide cultural and social activities to enrich the lives of students outside of the classroom.

Rachel Barsch, coordinator of Student Activities, asserts that the highlight of this semester's activities would be the trip to Traverse City and Sleeping Bear Dunes. The trip sports a low price tag to students of only $125, which includes transportation, lodging, and activity fees. Barsch said that trips that go on for more than one day have gotten great responses from participants: "I've learned from students who have been on overnight trips like these that you do make friends and keep in contact."

Students who go on the trip will stay in Traverse City, visit the dunes, kayak in the Platt River, and have some free time to explore the city. While food isn't provided, Barsch noted that the $125 per person is only a fraction of the total cost for the trip.

Other activities include Winter Welcome Week, a three-day event that hopes to welcome new students to campus this semester. On Tuesday, Jan 16 the department will set up tables to teach students how to make fun balloon animals. Jan 17 will feature a Club Hub where various organizations around campus reach out to students in the student center. More craft projects occur on Jan 18 when students are encouraged to make and take their own Mardi Gras mask.

Student Activities is also helping students get out to various performances in the Ann Arbor/Detroit area by offering discount tickets which are already available in the Cashier's office. This year the tickets include Cirque Dreams, Trinity Irish Dance Company, Los Folkloristas, and the anti-war musical Hair.

The department enjoys taking suggestions for new ideas and wants to encourage student cooperation in the process. Student Activities is able to provide help to those who are looking to start their own club or organization on campus, such as the WCC Drama Club who recently took their performance of "Real Inspector Hound" to the Riverside Arts Center.

More information about Student Activities and their calendar of events can be found on the main WCC website at wccnet.edu.
