Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn was the scene of a murder-suicide, barely a week before the 10-year anniversary of the shooting at Columbine High School and the two-year anniversary of the shootings at Virginia Tech. On April 10, Anthony Powell, 28, shot Asia McGowan, 20, and then turned the gun on himself in a classroom in the Grant MacKenzie Fine Arts Center building.
Maybe a student had an overwhelming job, a medical distraction, was in the wrong program, or just didn't grasp the importance of their grade point average (GPA). Starting Fall 2009, if Washtenaw Community College students had one or two poor semesters three years back but then illustrated academic improvement, they can apply to have those early classes academically forgiven by procedure.
